To begin, I'm not a welder. I have no significant skill at welding, and probably never will, because I'm old and learning new things gets harder when you get older. (I know lots of other stuff, don't worry.)What I'm looking for is the ability to put a small tack weld at the butt-joint of something like this:

...just so it's not a butt-joint anymore, and will have some strength. The material is actually 0.065" stainless steel TIG filler rod, 308L alloy if it matters. When I asked a friend who was related to an actual welder, he suggested that a cold welder was what I was looking for (considering that I have negligible skill and am not looking for a structurally sound weld), and I was pointed to this video here:This seems to be an Andeli unit, though the author of the video has intentionally blurred the unit's branding, as he does not wish to endorse the product.Does anyone here have any experience with this kind of low-end welding? If so, does it look like it would do what I'm looking to do? I will have more questions, but these suffice for now.

Reply:Seems like it would work, as all it really is, is a very short-duration high-amperage blast that fuses the parts with low-penetration and thus low (but not non-existent) heat input. A TIG welder with a spot-timer function could also accomplish what you are needing to do.

1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig!

Reply:OK so now I watched the video (just looked at the first few seconds, saw melted metal, and stopped)

Even in Pulse mode, why not just set the Background Amps to "0" for the same effect?
Reply:I think the black finger nails will give the first clue 🤔..Dave

Reply:I would tig those with no filler. Set machine around 150 amps, floor the pedal and manipulate torch until fused, and move on. Probably less than a second per ring. Looks like chain mail armor.
