Big 40 welder project

Just picked up this from an old farmer who had it behind his shop for a hundred dollar bill! What a find! Now, .....to get it running. So far I've cleaned out all the mouse beds, and blown out everything, I put a bunch of pb blaster down each plug whole to loosen up the rings. (It sat for the last 4 years outside) then checked compression, around 90lbs each cylinder! Opened the gas tank....wow what a mess! Going to have to replace that, but for now I'll use just a gas 5ank with a hose till I can figure out if it is going to run. Planning to rebuild the carb and filter before I try and run it, and the oil was actually not bad when it poured out the plug whole(I broke it when I was moving it onto the trailer......oops) anyway, if anyone has any tips let me know, and ill keep this page updated as much as I can. Will.upload pics later this evening.
Reply:Ok, so I hand rotated the engine and it's nice and smooth. Then hooked up a new battery and after I poured a little more oil down the plug holes I turned it over, and it turns great. Checked spark....a little weak but I'm not sure it's not supposed to be that way, so before I mess with it I'll get the plug on the oil drain repaired. Easy fix, just going to pull the oil pan and sandwich it with copper fittings and rubber on both sides. Then ultra Grey the oil pan gasket. I'll add pictures when I'm in front of a computer this evening.
Reply:Ok, so I put the carburetor back together after letting letting it soak in carb cleaner for the Night. I put it all back together and filled it with oil. Turns over, and with starting fluid it fires right up like a dream,  but it won't start without it and it dies immediately after. So it's definitely a carb issue. Or maybe it's the throttle/idler. It is not pulling gas from the line. I Even tried taking off the tune and blowing in it while turning it over to no avail....any suggestions other than buy a new carb?

The oil will trick you,,Over a long time, dirt will settle out of oil, it will look BRAND NEW!! Even detergent oil will let dirt settle.I recommend new oil,, less than 15 minutes of running,, then change the oil again.
