i wore provided uniform shirts for many years, but am sick of them. They burn/ wear out too fast and i cant re-order whenever i like. i plan on re-ordering tomorrow, as i think my time is up, but in the mean-time. . .  .i have tried the wrangler pearl button shirts (not fr) and have caught each of them on fire because of the exposed thread on the bottom. front and back. i dont tuck my shirts in so. . . . .the wrangler "Riggs" shirt i have has lasted pretty well, no fires, but soft material lets plenty of metal into the crook inside elbow

before i buy more of the "Riggs" shirts, do you guys have any thoughts? i have heard the black-stallion shirts are terrible, any other suggestions

Reply:I've gotten the best wear from Riggs denim.
Reply:ll bean chambray/denim work shirts last a good while although on the pricey side.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla

Reply:Lapco welding shirts. They are my favorite. Made in America as well. Morgan City, Louisiana I think is their home factory and office. They are on the same lines as Wrangler shirts, but made to last longer. Heck I get the thick wrangler long sleeve work shirts and weld in them for a couple years before I burn them up too bad. You have to get the thicker version. They have a thin one for farmers. Mine has so much starch on it from being brand new its like wearing a piece of cardboard

But it will last me a long time. I always tuck in my shirt when welding, fitting, grinding. Witnessed a guy get cut from one side of his stomach to the other. Because his shirt got caught in the cut off wheel on a 4.5" grinder. Luckily it didn't go deep enough to bring his inners out of him, but he had to get a bunch of stitches. It was nasty..... Just a word of advice.

Reply:I like the Wall's welding shirts. They're comparable to the old Carhartt shirts before they started making them in Mexico. LAPCO is good, too.
Reply:Walls the pearl snap always go bad on me and wont snap anymore. AND when you buy a Large it shrinks into a medium and if you buy a XL it shrinks into a large but is wide enough in the stomach to fit a baby elephant in there.

Reply:i ran into the "mountaincloth" shirts in my googling. . .might have to try them, thanks guys!i'll order a couple lapco's as well and see how they do.I just am scarred of miss-sizing. the wranglers that I liked were in LT, with L being a little short in the sleeve and waist.bosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin
Reply:I wear all bulwark because that's what my work gives me, fr rated, they hold up decently well, but nothing beats that blue miller jacket, it might as well be a shirtMiller Spoolmate 200 w/t S-52 WirefeederMM 211'09 Miller Trailblazer 302
Reply:I wear wrangler demin or heavy twill shirts work shirts from wrangler   I also like the ones from key industries  key brand clothing and fisher stripe coveralls
Reply:i have a couple of the heavier lapco denim shirts. don't wear them inside because they are too warm but in the colder weather they are my go to shirt.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:For me, the shirt depends somewhat on the customer.  For some customers I'll be in my cleanest gear, but I have some customers where my clothes go to die.  We're talking clothes I wouldn't even wear around the house anymore.

Reply:Thank you for the search button. I need some work shirts. I have been retired from teaching for three years my old school shirts are turning to rags. I'm tough on shirts and shorts, between, welding, clearing brush and Crossfit I look rough. I'm going to look at the suggestions and pick. I prefer USA made, not to heavy (Working in the woods of Wv).Good thread
Reply:for shirts,    i find the most economical thing is to just double up/two  shirts.    top one catches/burns through giving stuff time to cool before hitting second layer.     i bought about 60 - 80  regular button up long sleeve shirts light/nuetral colored from jc penny a few yrs ago.     bought my size and one size larger (for the top layer), on sale.      my closets still look like a clothing store.         for winter i got a slew of carhart jacketsLast edited by 123weld; 11 Hours Ago at 04:34 PM.
Reply:I mainly wear T-shirts and have the "green sleeves" when I weld. My wife is a good will shopper so my teaching shirts and pants came from there. I go a pair of duluth fire hose shorts but only wear them in winter too hot.
