Hi Guys and GirlsI have been welding for many years but I have never had the necessity to find a way to mix gases myself.I am working in an isolated part of the planet and I have readily available Argon and also Co2. However the is no Mixed bottles.Has anyone ever set up to mix the gases on their way to the welder? I see not reason why not but I am sure someone has done it before which will save me some time. Thanks in advanceWindy70
Reply:Well, first off,, WELCOME to the forum!!

and, second,,I would imagine that if you put a flow meter on each tank, then added a solenoid valve to each tank,,that when you opened both solenoids, the gases would both flow.Add a "T" fitting after the solenoid valves, the gases would combine.Since each tank has a flowmeter, you would be able to adjust the ratio of the gases.Hmmmmmm,,   sounds like that would work,, to me.  I built a CNC torch and needed a solenoid valve to open and close the oxygen flow.I bought a regular solenoid valve at a plumbing supply store, and it worked perfectly.

Reply:Search my posts and you will be able to see a couple different scenarios of how I did it without buying a dedicated high-dollar mixer.

Reply:If you are doing this for mig shielding gas foeget the mix and just use straight CO2. You won't hardly notice a difference.

AND, with two flowmeters, it would be easy to shut one off, and do comparison welds of straight gas compared to mixed gas.

Reply:I find it odd that you can't get mixed gas from a supplier if you can get argon and CO2 from them.
Reply:Today I went on craigslist to buy a 120 cf  helium bottle with 1k left in the tank so I could use it as my Ar/Co2 75/25 tank. Unfortunatlely it was already sold ( i could have sworn its been listed before). So now I have 2 - 330 cf argon tanks, 1- 60 cf argon tank, 1 -20lb co2 tank and 1 5 -lb  CO2 tank. Occasionally I like to use  75/25 and was thinking of mixing gases. I remembered there was a thread started somewhere about this.https://weldingweb.com/vbb/threads/7...on%2Fco2+mixer I'm hoping Praxair can get one for me. They have a part listed with no picture.Hope this helps.Airco 250 ac/dc Heliwelder Square waveMiller Synchrowave 180 sdMiller Econo Twin HFLincoln 210 MPDayton 225 ac/dcVictor torchesSnap-On YA-212Lotos Cut60D

Reply:Most of the time I use C100 on dual shield, and run the CFH that the manufacturer calls out. Usually I'm outdoors, and I figure the extra flow help with any breeze, and think the C100 helps cool the gun a little. Running gas shielded flux core @ 200 amps on a 175 amp gun hasn't ruined the gun, but it does need nozzles, tips, and diffusers more often than solid wire work. I don't really do any spray transfer, just the dual shield.Kind of bummed, I was hoping to play around with some helium with the 200 amp tig machines. Still waiting for a good 120cf bottle(75/25) to show up on-line, but might just buy one from the local welding shop because the 300 cf bottles I have make my cart too heavy and awkward to move. Its also good to have an account that has saturday hours too. Can't say I've had any problems with 75/25 separating, but the Tri-Mix has given me problems. I usually sits longer, and sometimes I think its not mixed/purged correctly. Two times I've had issues, once the tank was below a quarter and had sat a long time, rolling the tank on it side helpes. Another time it never welded good from the start , and rolling it did no good, just sent it back.Oh, and here's the link for FrankenMixer  :  https://weldingweb.com/vbb/threads/7...%82-O%E2%82%82Airco 250 ac/dc Heliwelder Square waveMiller Synchrowave 180 sdMiller Econo Twin HFLincoln 210 MPDayton 225 ac/dcVictor torchesSnap-On YA-212Lotos Cut60D
