Nice. I guess the screw thing allows precise angle adjustment and won't let the miter thing move.

Reply:Yeah the vices suck on these things.... mine is the enco model but pretty much identical.Only mods is new motor after first one burned up from a half hour of cutting 1" oil hard round stock, replaced a few of the neighbors motors also but HF saws.Oh, if you count changing the blade to lennox instead of import garbage then that's another mod I done to it

Reply:That's funny. Thought induction motors last 4ever. The ones it came with look beefy.

Reply:Do a bunch of cutting some medium size stock then feel the motor... they get pretty hot.
Reply:got turn pro saw for bigger stuff

Reply:Open up the gear box clean it out and relube. My buddy found chunks of metal in his and I found some drill bit cuttings in mine.
Reply:Somehow, I tested the saw out and I tightened up the blade and then it snapped in half??????? Coinicidence? I don't want to break another one, whats the cause of this. I was cutting 1x1 1/16 wall thickness. Whats the proper tension anyway?

Reply:Don't know what blade you had in your saw but the factory blades that come in the majority of the 4x6 bandsaws are pretty much a throw away blade anyway. I probably didn't make but about 5-6 cuts and changed the blade. Most of the time I use the Olson brand blades just because I can buy them nearby. Besure when buying a new blade to get one the proper thickness.
Reply:You asked earlier about mods to the 4x6 saw, one of the first things I did for mine was to make it more sturdy and got it up off the floor more as the factory stands are flimsy and too short. I wanted mine up off the floor high enough that I did not have to bend over all the time to operate it.
Reply:got ya. for 16 y/o i don't really care about that. but its pretty flimsy. Maybe ill make one out of 2x4 as L or I or [ metals is too xpensive. plus it would be nice to have a stop block system to make repeatable cuts. anyone got a stop block mod?Last edited by n00b; 11-05-2018 at 08:05 PM.

Reply:Import blades are pure trash, olson weren't too bad they outlasted the HF blades probably6-10X but like most things the cheap chit will work however the good stuff will work and work and work and etc........Proper tension is  hard to describe... but I usually run mine pretty tight like.. press with your thumb(if you have one) sideways in the center of the blade with opening at max width...15 to 20 pounds blade should deflect no more than 1/8 -1/16 inch... basically screw the handwheel pretty tight with one hand and no tools.
Reply:Not to re-direct you, but there's an entire Yahoo Group dedicated to these saws with lots of mods/upgrades done over the years.  Granted you have to sift through the threads from years past, but there more info there than you can get from a single thread here or anywhere.
Reply:Is this the group or is there another one? Doesn't seem like much info here especially in the last few years. (Scroll down the home page to see the posting chart)https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/sawking/info
Reply:It good saw  as sitsAbout the only modifications I did was better wheels It also will work great for saw you move to work /work site and a backup saw Dave

Reply:Here's a stop block mod I made for mine. Works great. I've used it a lot recently.https://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.ph...-4-x-6-bandsawI have an Olson blade on mine, works real well if the TPI matches the stock I'm cutting. The blade has lasted quite a while. Got it on Amazon.Last edited by JD1; 11-06-2018 at 05:07 PM.
Reply:Looks like you could use a stand.  Here's mine before I put pieces of plywood in for tool storage.  Still need to paint it!

Reply:I went to your link, signed on for a Yahoo account but cannot see any pictures, either in the thread or when I click on the image link that shows up. I searched the group for "modification" wanting to see all the mods people had done. Without images, it's useless. I'm on Windows 10 and the problem is there in both Internet Explorer and Chrome. Any ideas?
Reply:I can see the photosThe may have settings to see photos you need to join Dave

Reply:I did join. I thought that might be the problem but no.Edit: maybe join is different than joining Yahoo groups. I'll look at that when I get back home.Last edited by JD1; 11-07-2018 at 11:58 AM.
Reply:Yep, that was right. It wasn't clear right away but when I hunted around with that idea in mind I found where you have to join the bandsaw group. I submitted my request and there was a notice saying that the moderator gets around to approving/disapproving every few days so I'll have to wait.
Reply:tension on the blade= tight, then tighter.

Reply:Yep, not too many 16 yr old kids would go that far using a homemade trailer to go get a horizontal bandsaw. Hope he keeps up that interest level and work ethic.

They are not designed for production shops or all day every day use.As others have said take the time to dial it in, change the blade to a name brand one and get (make) a decent vise and enjoy.

Reply:Good tip on going to the photo section. I did notice how lame Yahoo is. I ran through a number of the threads and posts on there and found exactly what you said, many complaints about photos not showing up in the posts. I think I'll stick with the photo link, usually I only need to see a photo and I can make whatever but sometimes a description and comments are quite helpful.
Reply:It would also be nice if Village Press would put all the bandsaw mods submitted by authors over the years to HSM, PIM/MW and publish a book dedicated to the 4x6 saw, which to date, I do not think they have done.
Reply:The yahoo groups have moved off of yahoo
