Hey folks, this is my first post so I apologize if it's in the wrong place or if I mess up some etiquette etc. I'm having a problem with my MIG-PAK 140. The machine turns on, but the fan doesn't run. Wire feeds when the trigger is pulled but the "duty cycle exceeded" light comes on and the wire only sparks when contacting the workpiece at which point the wire immediately stops feeding. The correct voltage is applied to the machine and the breaker hasn't tripped. I've let the machine cool down, unplugged it, tried a different outlet, but that hasn't solved the problem. Lincolns tech support line isn't picking up and the nearest service center is in a different city two hours away so I would be keen to hear some ideas. Thanks very much!
Reply:First it is very important to post the code number of the welder and the complete name for help with Lincoln welders. The mig-pak 140 does not have a thermal light but the mig-pak 140 MP does. These are two very different machines. Also post the first part of the serial number, Letter and first 5 numbers. this is the date code.the plain 140 is a transformer based welder. the 140 MP is an inverter welder.Go to Lincoln's web site and under support, go to find parts. this will take you to the service navigator. enter as a guest. then enter code number in the box. wait for links to appear. then select. now you will have access to service information and parts books. also while on :Lincoln's web site you can use the contact tab and send an email to the service dept. They will get back to you in a few days. Keep questions simple and to the point. If welder happens to be under warranty you may want to just take it to a warranty center. there is a service center locator on the web site.At this point I think you have a failed pcb inside the welder. just can't tell if it is the power pcb or the display pcb.
Reply:Thank you so much for the info! The code number is 12664. The complete name is Mig Pak 140 MPThe first part of the serial number is M31805I've already emailed the service department and they only sent back a list of service centers to contact, the closest of which is in a different city two hours away as mentioned before which is why I've come here for a possible solution. Thanks very much for the input, I really appreciate the help!

Reply:By serial number the welder is under warranty. Call the service centers near you and find out if they have any drop off places that they pick up from. Of if you can UPS it to them. Check with local welding supply stores and find out how they get welders to the repair center. Make it easier for them to complete the warranty by going to Lincoln electric .com and under the support tab select product registrationand register you welder. Make sure you enter your date of purchase. This will make getting your welder repaired easy for the service shop. Lincoln just started a new warranty system and it likes to have all welders registered.where are you located? |
