My little stickweld 140 arrived last night, 6 days after the order, including 5 days in the hands of UPS.I knew it was coming, but was lazy, and didn't get around to picking up a 20 amp extension cord....so I did the obvious thing, plugged it into a 100' 15 amp cord.Guess what happened on the 4th 3/32 6013?Yup, popped the breaker. I figured it would, but I just had to plug 'er in.So this morning, I took it outside, where I had easy access to a 20 amp 120v circuit. Ran numerous 3/32 6013s, with no issues. I ran one 1/8 6011, but the voltage just wasn't there. It ran the rod, but I really had to bury the rod in the puddle, could not whip at all on the 120 volt outlet.I ran it off of the 120v, 20amp outlet on my 4,000 watt generator, and the 3/32 6013 ran as well off of it, as it did on the household 120. I think 3/32 6011 might run as well on 120, but don't have any on hand to try. When I got back in the garage, I plugged it into one of my 220 outlets, and the 1/8 6011 ran very well. I could whip in and out of the puddle, and never missed a beat, even when I intentionally held a longer arc than normal. It also allowed me to really jam the rod into the steel, as you would jam it into the root. It dug in, and never sputtered.Just for fun, when I feel energetic, I'll bevel some coupons, and see if I can run a root with it and the 6011.To me, the 6011 doesn't run at all like 6010. It seems more like a cross between 6010 and 6013. Anyway, I'll give it a try.The power cord is only about 6', but surprisingly, the leads are about 13' each! That should keep me from having to drag the machine around every time I move to a new weld.I hope I am able to report back just as pleased, after I have used it for a good while.Last edited by geezerbill; 02-28-2015 at 06:52 PM.Hobart Beta-Mig 2511972 Miller AEAD-200LEMiller 250 TwinNorthern Ind. I had to stay so long, it made 2 or three ripples per iteration. Run hotter, it would have smoothed out better because the pause In the whip and pause would have been much shorter. The 1/8 6011 is pretty rough, but with 3/32 6011, it lays in there real nicely.I thought the 3/32 6013 (Hobart) ran pretty nice also, though the puddle was getting pretty wet on the last pass with it.Could be because the piece was pretty hot by then.
