At what price point would you buy a used PM 45xp over a new one? What would you look for in a used one to determine if it was working properly or had been abused?
Reply:Suggested list price for a Powermax45XP with a 20' hand torch is $2290.00 (U. S. $). Some dealers will sell for less than that. The only abuse that you can inflict on one would be physical damage to the power supply, leads and torch, this would be obvious if you look at a unit. Most likely the Power supply is under warranty (3 years from date of purchase) and possibly the torch (1 year). It would be very rare to find a Powermax45XP on the used market.....they have been in production for about 2 years and are in high demand. Jim Colt Hypertherm
Reply:There is one on Craigslist for $1650 with consumables. The 45xp locally and online goes for $1890 plus about $100 for consumables. Not a big gap but a small savings.
Reply:There are different models. Mine with a cpc, and 25ft hand torch/gouging torch/more consumables for both, would probably be listed for about $1600.00. Perfect shape, and less then a year old very low hour unit.. The gouging torch throws it into a good deal category. (IMO) Not selling it at this point though.. Reply:3 year guarantee...... 36 months into $2100 $60 / month. Pay accordingly. Grab the serial number and call HT to verify the time left on the warranty and make an offer.
Reply:BrandsX, that would be a good deal. Thank you all for your info!

Reply:For used car/truck/bike/4x4 parts my rule of thumb is no more than 60% of new. For tools like this it's higher. I've seen a few PM45s around lately for about $1000. The out-the-door price for the 45xp is almost double for a new machine.
