I have the old HF plasma cutter model 95136.  It's a 220 40Amp cutter and has 3 output wires.  I had it working a long time ago and have a new project to cut.So it has 3 wires coming out labeled:White: NeutralGreen: GroundBlack: HotI took down my 220V A/C outlet because I won't need it for a good while.I have Red, White, Black, Green going into the A/C outlet and I'm pretty sure two are 110.  The 220V A/C uses Red and Black for 110/110 and White as the ground/return.  IDK if return and ground can be called the same thing, but the A/C worked fine this way for years. Here's the actual manual - wiring diagram showing the 220 input.  The actual input has the labels:White: NeutralGreen: GroundBlack: HotThese are printed labels from the factory.  I don't understand why only 1 would be listed as hot.  Am I supposed to merge the two 110 onto the one hot?The diagram seems to suggest the same wiring as the A/C (110/110/return) but those colors are (black/red/white)Is there a problem with connecting two 110 sources together onto the one labeled "Hot"?https://www.manualslib.com/manual/65...page=16#manual
Reply:Maybe that machine was wired for use in a country with an electrical system different from what we use. Or maybe little Chinese kidsweren’t paying attention when they built it. If it’s 240v., two current carrying conductors and ground,it shouldn’t have a “neutral “.“Merging “ your two “110v.” wires together from the a/c outlet willbe “shorting” them. There should be 240v. between red and black,120v. from red to white, and 120v.. from black to white. From your drawing, it looks like your black and white wires from the plasma machine should actually be connected to the two “hots” in the a/c outlet.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:Get out your voltmeter and make sure the white wire input to the welder doesn't go straight through to the ground clamp that you clamp to your project. The diagram shows typical US 240 volt configuration with two hot leads, each 120 volts above neutral and 180 degrees out of phase from the other hot lead. But the actual welder withWhite: NeutralGreen: GroundBlack: Hotmight be designed only for overseas, where one hot lead is 240 volts above neutral.HF MIG-180 with all the mods.Grizzly H8153 Stick/Tig Pulse 130/160.Wards PowrKraft AC-230. Reply:Green is Ground, White is 120 volt, black is 120 volt = 240 voltwww.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Dealer Consumables for the PT and IPT torch's
