Reply:i've used the hobart electric motor generator welders and their very good machines. the fine adjustment dial is removable and can be used as a remote with a 110v extension cord. these machines can also be used to start a truck/engine drive with a dead battery.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla

Reply:I'd like to see Hobart come out with a 350 class tapped mig with stick capability and kick the shiit out of Miller and Lincoln just like the Ironman whips a 252 or a 256 for simplicity/reliability.HTP will beat them to it, which is OK too

Reply:Any company that is publicly traded is pretty much doomed to fail at some point and time.  The growth based model they rely on just can't go on forever.  It's the same reason cities, counties, countries, etc go bankrupt when growth stalls or stops.  Any time you have an entity (investors and all the bureaucracy that come with them) add value to the company once, then expect not only a return but growth in returns every year, year after year without ever making the company another dime, something has to give.  It's the same reason oil companies aren't happy sustaining huge profits, indeed they need to grow and break new profit records every few years to feed all the non contributing memebers.  IF you had a one income household and kept adding non contributing members to the household, and every non contributing person had a great idea about how you can make more money to bring home to them, what would happen?  If you think ANY company that isn't your own has YOUR best interest at heart, then you're quite naive.  If you think any company that you like is treating you well bc they ultimately care about YOU and not sustaining their own profit generator (your relationship with them, buying from them) then you're in for a rude awakening.  That being said ITW still puts out good quality products that are as competitive as anything out there warranty and support wise, they ALL suck :P .  We all miss the good ol' days but when was the last time you went down to the old school general store owned by granpa chet and bought anything?  Do you think granpa chet was more concerned with his own hungry kids or yours?  Even companies like starrett have some low quality products these days, which current company do you prefer over ITW and why?  Backing your product to one factions content is just another tool to sell more to the public, if you think they are about you, they Aren't.  Being an emotional consumer is a real bad way to shop.  Relying on emotions for most things is action in error.Last edited by SlowBlues; 12-11-2018 at 03:50 PM.

Reply:That stremliner is just about the sharpest looking welder, possibly piece of industrial machinery I've seen.  Imagine being the guy that pulled one of those off the lot in '52.  Showing up to your first job pulling that beauty must have been a real fine time to be alive!
Reply:If ya think that's cool checkout the Hobart Weldmobile..https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3568/3...7837c87d_m.jpgI always thought it would be cool to make one out of and old sa200Lincolin Power Wave 450, Lincoln Powermig 255, Lincoln Pro Mig 140, Lincoln Squarewave Tig 275, Miller Big 40 G(with Hobart Hefty suitcase), Thermal Arc 95S and Esab PCM875 in an already full machine shop.
Reply:Now THAT is a welding cart!  Those old Hobarts had so much style, even the rheostat housing/handle is beautiful. Love the red, I wonder if it was a stock color.  I'm surprised the big red and blue haven't done something similar with their modern engine driven welders.  Offering a fancy sheet metal and grill option, special edition, or something similar.  I know a few pipe guys that love buying things that scream "I spent a crap ton of money", and I have no doubt they'd be first in line to buy them (racing to bankruptcy)!
Reply:What a cool old machine
