The 2016 PowerMTS 251Si has several features that set it apart when compared to the Miller Multimatic 200, Lincoln 210 MP, Tweco Fabricator 251i, and even the new ESAB rebel. Designed as a heavy duty replacement for the PowerMTS 250S and early 2015 251si models, the 251si takes several things to a new level.1) This unit offers increased wire capacity, with room to handle up to a 12" roll of wire.  It's still  fully portable but shouldn't a 250 amp welder be a big boy?2) The welder now features a 4 roll, gear driven feeder which make it sure-footed when feeding any size wire the unit is designed for.3) Two fan design, offers plenty of additional cooling without creating a lot of noise.4) The new Pulse MIG feature allows you to make the most out of spray arc welding which is particularly useful in welding aluminum but also other metals as well. It offers full, independently controlled pulse MIG parameters without a need to access hidden menus or complicated programming.  This is a industry first in a MIG/TIG/Stick welder like this and is another point worth comparing to competitors.  Go compare for yourself.   5)  Not only is it equipped with a pulse MIG, this unit also features DC pulse TIG welding, another unique feature and improvement for a 3 in 1 welder like this.   6)  This unit offers another important industry first:  HF start for TIG welding.  Of course, you can still select lift start for TIG when necessary, but having HF start means less tungsten contamination, less time resharpening and more time welding.7) This unit includes a ready-to-go TIG package in its price...so don't forget that. All you'll need is tungsten and argon gas to get started TIGging. You won't have to wire or rig this welder to make it work with TIG either. You can even keep the door close to the welder while TIG welding as all controls and features are mounted on the front.   We even offer upgrades to the premium CK line of accessories along with an SSC pedal as an option.Go compare the unit against our competitors.   This by far offers more features than any other  compact MIG/TIG/Stick welder on the market.

Reply:I am not sure what to make of that except to say, compare apples to apples.  The rebel doesn't come anywhere near it in wire roll capability, included accessories, features or power of the 251Si.  Better compare to our 211 and it still falls short on features and included accessories especially for those wanting to take advantage of the TIG feature.Plus, we've been selling developing, making and selling compact inverter MTS units since 2009.  The first to do so in the US.  ESAB is just cutting it's teeth on the market.  We've honed our units and offer a package that performs and includes everything you need to TIG, STICK or MIG weld.  And we have a foot pedal and a TIG torch without a gas valve because the gas solenoid is built in.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:I agree the Esab 215ic is better compared to the 211si. It's similar in power, with a cool screen and rugged looking chassis, but it loses on duty cycle, lack of HF start / gas solenoid, and price. The 251si adds more power and pulse settings over the 211si.Everlast PowerMTS 211Si
Reply:I was looking at purchasing one of these units but its impossible to get ahold of anyone with any information about these units I emailed mark a few times and I get told to call Oleg and I did he was out of the office and was to return my phone call to answer my questions I've now called twice after being told he would call me and still haven't found anything out with this unit just wish I could get a few questions from the company
Reply:When will an Online manual be available?
Reply:I have ordered and used the Everlast 255ext TIG, and Everlast 50s plasma cutter.  I have been very pleased with both.  I just ordered the 251Si as it looks like a dream machine.  I will be doing a online review of all three soon.My goal is to get the spool gun for this unit as well.
Reply:Can I get a comment one way or another as to an online manual.  IE if you guys will be coming without one soon.
Reply:No online manual.  No date on the release.  The 250S manual is fairly close, though not identical.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:Just got my 251Si and have been testing things out.  One problem I have is that the TIG HF start does not work.  Lift start does.  Is their anything I can check? Please note that it is in HF start mode.  I did notice that it does not sound like my 255ext when the unit is triggered.  My 255ext has a slight sizzling sound and the 251Si just has a hiss sound.Last edited by msimpson99; 03-29-2016 at 02:57 AM.

Reply:I will give them a call in a few days, after I have a chance to test the MIG. My first hurdle is that there is no way to mount 4" rolls.  I have something setup temporarily, but want to fabricate something.
Reply:Looking for a second source for replacement nozzles on the mig torch.  Any one have a link?  Also I would like a flux core nozzle as well.
Reply:The torches do not have flux core nozzles.  They are able to use flux core with the standard gun, but do not have a separate flux core head.Plenty of sources out there.  Riverweld is a good one if you like cheap and want to wait a week.  Or any trafimet or binzel dealer can set you up with them.  HTP carries parts for certain model trafimet and binzel guns, which they use on their equipment as well.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:I just noticed that there were some torches that had both the gas and the flux nozzles.  The main benefit with the flux nozzle (when using flux wire) is that they taper off and provide better visibility and access to corners. As for my TIG HF start problem.  It was all my bad.  Works like a champ.  I contacted Tech support via email and in less than 24 hours had a response. A tech ran me through things and found my problem.Last edited by msimpson99; 03-30-2016 at 04:35 PM.

Reply:I have had my machine for a couple weeks now and it's now my goto machine.  At first I was using the Lincoln chart settings to set things up.  But once I started using the Synergic MIG mode, there is no need for charts or tables.  I simply set the wire thickness and Amps (based on thickness of the material).  So far it has been spot on.  I can tweak the voltage to tweak things but have found the default settings seem to be perfect. If you want to know what the machine has set for the wire speed, just change mode and the unit will display the wire speed for a second or so as it switches to the new mode.I use the machine mostly for MIG as I have a 255EXT that I use for TIG if I am doing small delicate work.  Don't get me wrong, I was repairing a small steel cage the other day that was made from 12 gauge wire and I was having a lot of trouble with the 255EXt TIG getting a clean arc.  I switched over to the 251Si MIG and using .025 wire and 50Amps was able to make all the repairs.I'm still getting used to MIG and have get a lot more seat time to get those welds to look as good as some that I have seen.  That said, I can through together a project very quickly with my 251Si.For those of you who have small 4" wire rolls please note that you can not mount them on the 251Si.  What I did was get one of those large mounting magnets and attach a 1/2" carriage bolt with a series of washers and nuts to make a mount that works perfect.

Since its magnetic you can mount it anywhere.

I use a series of washers, nuts, and lock washers to tweak the tension.  Has work flawlessly for three rolls so far.

Reply:That wire roll mount is a neat idea. The synergic mode settings aren't quite right on my 211si, but maybe they've updated the programming on newer models?Everlast PowerMTS 211Si

Reply:Well, it wouldn't be something that would be a warranty issue.  I think some internal changes were made to the front board someway.  I am not 100% on this, and would have to ask Ray or someone else on that.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:Something I might add about the wire holder.  You can use more than one mount.  For instance I have one for my .025 and one for my .035 wire.  I can rewind the wire and keep my tension settings and just use a second spool that is already tensioned.
Reply:If you cant find a source for the magnets, pick up a 4" Magnetic ground block from Harbor Freight and remove the bolt. Part number 30754.  They cost $8.

Reply:Ok, went to install my first 12lb roll of wire and am very disappointed.First off the alignment holes don't mate.   Second no way to hold the spool in place as there is too much room between the spool and the main nut.  The documentation is totally useless, both the manual that came with the unit and those from the other units.Looks like I am down to have to fabricate a spool holder for the 12lb spools as well.  I have to say this is pretty crappy.  While this was my goto welder, it just went down a peg or two.  This is freaking simple stuff.  Some sort of spacer should have been included as a minimum.
Reply:Just as with any 40+ lb carrier, you have to use an adapter.  12" rolls are wider than 8" rolls. Everlast is no different than any other company that I know of in that respect. I don't know why you'd be disappointed in it when it is the same as other brands in this regard.  It's physically impossible to use different varying width rolls without some concession. We have adapters available, just as other companies do, which have to be ordered separately as well. Call Everlast to order.  Or you can simply cut a piece of pvc and slide over the carrier.

Reply:I was able to make an adapter by cutting a piece of 2" PVC pipe to take up the space between the back of the spool mount and the spool.  I also had to laser cut a rubber washer to allow me to create enough friction to fully attach the spool to the spool holder.  This way the tension spring in the spool holder works properly.I can understand the 4" spools, but come on a 5 cent piece of plastic.Last edited by msimpson99; 05-04-2016 at 12:18 AM.

Reply:Yes, would have been nice to mention something about and adapter in the manual (if you want to call it that).  Also I went to your site and did several searches.  Could not find any adapters.  Would be nice if you would post product links to your site when you mention things like that.FYI, Lincoln offers adapters with their machines up to and including the 210MP.  You are correct int hat the larger machines they are an option.  However the are mentioned in their manuals with part numbers.I here is a bit of advice from someone who runs a small business.  You should never strive to be just like your larger competitors.  Your goals should be not only to beat them on a price point.  Its all the little things that do add up. This is one reason that All my recent equipment purchases have been Everlast.  I probably would not have had the reaction I did had their been some sort of reference in the manual.
Reply:The 251 is a larger machine.  It is designed for 250 amps and 44 lb roll.  The 251Si is a much larger machine.  Compare that to the 211si...which is a smaller unit.We do strive to be better, but reality is that  (and any one in business knows this) no matter how hard we try, someone is always going to find something to have an issue with us about. We offer better prices, and more extensive features and a longer warranty.  And we are working on improving serviceability and service times.  That is what we are concentrating on.   If we offer an adapter, like other companies do,  as an option, when we offer features our competitor's don't come close to, it would seem we are being better.  But again, we have to do our best to keep our focus on the things mentioned above to stay competitive with our much smaller staff and company resources. All you need to do is call in and talk with Andrew at ext 202. Reply:I have owned the same mig welder for 28 years. It didn't come with any adapter to accept 8 inch spools. I asked my lws on more than one occasion for som sort of spacer. No dice. I used to wedge a sheet metal screw between the spool and the spindle, totally  redneck but it worked. I finally got fed up after searching for hours on the internet for an adapter and made my own out of plumbing parts. This little adapter is exactly what l have been looking for. Everlast should put this item on ebay and amazon. Lincoln does have something that works too but it's almost as redneck as my home brewed solution. The Everlast part is elegant by comparison. This is the $27 Lincoln part that my lws had no idea even existed.

Reply:Has anybody recently received a PowerMTS 251Si?  I was under the impression that one of the features of the unit was quiet fan operation, but the unit I just received makes quite a rise-and-fall siren racket when simply powered-on and idling. Has anyone else experienced this? Everlast tells me this is normal, explaining that "The case has been changed and the unit changed to a two fan design to increase the duty cycle to 40%".Here's what it sounds like when powered up on 120v and just sitting idle: http://toddtolhurst.com/dl/251si.wav
Reply:You may have an issue with your power supply on the input side.  I think it is possible from the sound.    PM me your information, and I'll check on it myself and have someone contact you.  The duty cycle is 50%.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

Reply:I've sent an email. On 120V this is supposed to pulse the fan like this.  I am not sure if it is switching between fans or varying the fan speed.  The speed is programmed by the machine.   However, what I have received has said this is normal on 120V.  What happens on 240V?Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

Reply:Is there a way to change the wire speed indicated vs actual? I set it too 400 In/Min and it only cranks out 260 In/Min, just as slow at lower settings too. seems like there should be a way to calibrate that.
