I got this Welder from my friend's father who past away. Machine was still in use to repair his excavating equipmentI spoke with lincoln and they had no info on it. Only thing they could tell me is that is either a 1939 or 1940 by the engine it has (hercules IXA3)Anyone have any info or experience with one of these?

Reply:Man, that thing is cool! looks like it very similar to a SA200 (pipe liner). but yours has infinite amps instead of 5 gears.It seemed like a good idea at the time!

Reply:Thanks for the repliesIm thinking that that mount hanging down was originally for a set of wheels that could turn by pivoting in the middle, similar to the cart its sitting on now.The machine could be some sort of kit, but looks too "clean" to me.I'm considering on cleaning this machine up real nice and just light sanding, then clear coating it. Definitely want to polish the top of the radiator though because its brass.As for mechanical stuff it has a crack in the exhaust manifold and a crack in the air filter assembly that I'll need to address.Cody WernerFABCONwww.fabconwelds.com
Reply:Duane or Bills repair are the experts in this but I am guessing the J stands for Junior and I am guessing it is a old one
Reply:The other reason I think it is a junior is the fact that the faceplate says maximum horsepower 18 I don’t know what horsepower a f-162 is but it is more than 18 my guess is it was before they put Wisconsin v4 in the juniors

Reply:I was assuming it hadn’t been converted from electric to gas because the faceplate also says 1950 rpm full load 1800 the contiuous voltage control also says something at the bottom left hand side idle s?? Voltage control only goes to 60 unlike most machines that go to 100I am guessing never seen anything like it
Reply:It might use the throttle to control voltage similar to the early short hoods that used the throttle to adjust volts/amps. Looks too good to be a kit. Very cool welder!!!
Reply:Yeah, under the voltage knob it says " Idle Speed Only" which is the lowest setting for the voltage. There is a chain that runs from the welder end to the carburetor which I assume opens the carb up more as you increase the voltage.Cody WernerFABCONwww.fabconwelds.com
Reply:I knew of a short hood with it but the guy selling it couldn't get parts or any info on the throttle control. He tried putting in an SA200 rheostat but that didn't work.
