Any pipe welding on the job training?

I'm wondering if there are any companies that train highly motivated welders to pipe weld.  I've been a welder fabricater for 12 + years and wanna make a better living and I've always been interested in pipe welding.  I live in NW Florida and willing to relocate wherever in the great US OF A if given the opportunity.  Thanks for any leads in advance
Reply:I would say it would be more worth it to just go to a school for it. I have yet to see any place that would let you have enough time to get decent practice, and some instruction. I went to Tulsa welding school in Jax, FL. Its around $13k or so for a 7 month program, 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. They have night classes available so you can work full time in the day, and assist with finding a place to stay and getting roommates if needed. I got grant money and student loans to cover the cost, which they helped with applying for. To put that $13k for school into perspective, last year a did a job that I took home $15k in 3 weeks. So yeah, it's worth it. I actually got that particular job from this forum when someone was looking for pipe welders.

Reply:United Group Services in Cincinnati, OH runs a private welder training school for their personnel.  If memory serves me correctly, the training program runs under the name of Elite Academy or Elite training academy.They charge for the privilege of attending the school, but I believe that they'll put you to work when you successfully complete the training.This info is a few years old; so check on the internet and see if the program still exists.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector

Reply:In Texas Coastal bend  some of the locals go for training at Craft Training Center. You can work a job during the day and go to school after work.http://www.ctccb.org/
Reply:There was a company in Marietta Ohio that was training welders for pipe applications. They put you through their own school with the agreement you would work there at a prevailing wage for a specified period. I met one of their welders in a bar in Athens Ohio and he did the school and stayed on past the period, I wish I could recall the company name. He was making good money, this was about 2-3 years ago that I talked to the guy.
