Preparation aids for AWS certifications

Does anyone know of any sources for video or printed information that would help a person prepare for various AWS certifications. I would prefer a video or DVD that shows the actual procedures being demonstrated if possible.........thanks

Reply:Are you doing a weld test or qualifying as an inspector???  I do have a tip sheet for standard flux core single bevel joints with bacing bar.
Reply:arcdawg,Thanks for the website, I will be checking it out.lotechman,I am planning on starting up my own mobile welding/fabricating business part-time, and was thinking that having a few credentials would help me get my foot in the door. I would like to start out with some sort of plate welding certification, then add some others when the time is available. I have read posts from others on various welding forums, and I am somewhat confused by the process. It appears that some say the certification is only good while working on a certain project, or the procedures that you certify for are only good for 6 months unless you can show that you have recently performed similar welding prior to the certification expiring. I am always willing to learn something new, and found that education is a good investment.............thanks
Reply:Since you are a mobile welding business, maybe certs in stick(all position) would be a good start. I would check with your local community college, they can give you some idea of what you are up against.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Pat there are tow things happening here.  Up here in Canada we have had company cerifications for sometime.  I understand that AWS is heading to that direction.  Your business has to meeet certain requirements in order to be certified.  Up here it is at three levels.  The highest level is that you have a  welding engineer on staff.Some contractors locally get the lowest certification for themselves and their truck.  Over the past twenty years the need to certify has been crucial for structural steel.
