Hello. I have absolutely no experience with welding, but I would really like to learn. I'm a photographer and I thought it would be a really interesting idea to make my own custom photograph holders (not necessarily framing). I was wondering if I can get some tips and maybe learn where to startwith this whole process of gathering equipment, safety, and the technicalities. If anyone could give me any info I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Reply:Check out you local comm.colleges or tech.centers.most  offer some welding classes.most are priced very cheap for what you get out of it.
Reply:Faerie,In addition to the good advice you've already received, let me add the following.Buy a decent welding text.  Welding Essentials by Marlowe/Galvery is one I reccommend.  Once you decide on a process that you may wnat to learn, go visit a local welding shop.  Introduce yourself, tell them what you are all about, and they will most likely give you the grand tour and plenty of information. As you progress toward buying welding equipment, you will have learned that there is a significant expense involved to start from scratch.  Pay particular attention to the safety equipment and proceedures - they are VERY important.Lastly, when you're ready, come on back!  We will help you all we can!!Be well.hankj

Reply:^ at least the pics we have seen are always clear!!StangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:Where at in PA are you?  May know someone near you that you could always stop over and see etc.  Some times it helps to actually see it rather than on tv or book etc.  Just a thought.
Reply:Faerie,Don't forget your local library. They not only have books on welding, but video tapes on oxyace, stick, MIG, TIG , on and on.It's a great resource and it's FREE! (We all pay taxes right?)Ask at the desk, and they will order the tape library on weldingfor you if it's not at your branch.I made copies of the tapes, and I'll bet I've watched them atleast 5 times over the past couple of years. You would be surprised at what you learn through repetition- especially at myage!
