I ran a few welds today on my new Lincoln 175 Mig. I am welding 1/8 mild steel and I set up the welder per Lincoln's chart with a voltage of E and a wire feed speed of 7 with gas. The weld on the right was done with the settings above. Although the sound did not sond correct. Kind of loud pops not real smooth like my 135 Lincoln on .083 mild steel. But the weld looks great. The weld on the left is a wire speed of 10 which did not pop and crack as much and sounded smoother bu teh weld it not as nice..My questions is usually I always have to slow the wire feed down about a 1/2 from Lincolns specs. Why would it sound better with more wire? Is the sound a lot different because it is on 220V -vs- my 135 on 110? I tried welding on D voltage and it souned better but the weld looked colder.Does anyone have a audio file of a 220v Mig on some 1/8 or thicker material? Also when I stop welding the weld seems to be slopped at the end. How to I prevent that? I did not notice that on my 135 Mig.Thanks in advance!MikeLast edited by malich; 10-11-2004 at 06:09 PM.
