Does Sheilding Gas Cool sheetmetal?

I thought of this today, as I was looking into regulators and bottles to add to my little lincoln pak 15. I am still trying to nail down good technique for welding sheetmetal (autobody), and I've had some melt through problems. I was curious as to whether running gas as opposed to flux core might help this, as the sheilding gas might carry away some of the heat. Thoughts?

Reply:Do you have a WeldPac 115?  If so, I don't thik it converts to GMAW.  It only runs flux-core, I think?  If you can convert it, the gas doesn't cool the weld metal, but the gas properties affect the weld penetration, the amount of spatter, and the weld appearance.  You will most likely wind up using C-25 (75% Argon/25% CO2).Hank
