Reply:Are you buying cold roll or hot roll? Hot roll is common steel. Most steel is hot roll, does this have a shiney finish?www.urkafarms.com
Reply:Thats .77/lb. Not cheap, but given steel prices these days, its not gouging. Steel prices vary widely depending on profile, and location. Cheapest I see these days is .50/lb for new, but thats only for simple shapes in common sizes. My guess is if you bought 10, or 50 sheets, it would come down a bit, but CR sheet requires a little more careful handling- they cant just leave it out in the rain, so they charge a little more for it. I am paying anywhere from 2.12 to 3.50 a pound for stainless steel, if its any consolation.
Reply:this has a thick gray finish, i worked it out to about .52 per pound. the sheet weighed in at 117 so... i have about 15 suppliers to chose from here in b'hamStangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:You probably did OK. I paid $38.00 for 20' of 1.5" x .190 wall square tube, and 35¢/# for flat scrap a couple of weeks ago in Northern California. It just ain't pretty right now. If they ever finsh building that 3 river dam in China, things may slow down, but nearly every vendor of fastners of any kind has out-sourced to China for product. It has put a major drain on steel in the USA.Hank
Reply:I have heard you talk about steel here, I am sure you got hot roll unless you spec cold roll. Normal mill steel is hot roll. I was just trying to eleminate confusion for future refrence.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:probably right on the hot roll Sb, atleast they sheared it free for me!!StangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey |
