Reply:Hi,  Yeah what all do you want to do with it?  Motorcycles?  Tables?  trailers possibly?  Yeah I say it would doGood luckCHRIS
Reply:Also I noticed another post you made.  You referenced the DVI.   Do you know what the dvi is?  Basically its a MM 175 that can run off 115V input.  This means that it is rather versatile.  I would say its good for a guy who does something like builds railings and doesn't need the higher current for a 200 amp machine.  He does have shop power of 220V for doing all the main fab work where he needs full power of the welder.  And for those times of installation he can revert to a 115V machine with less current,  inother words you dont get 175 amps,  probably something around 130 maybe 140 not really sure.  I would think this machine could suffice for what you need, but reemmber you can never have too much power.  Even with this machine you need to run 220V for most of what your wanting to do.  Only reason I could see for this machine is the option to run 115V for remote site welding,  like if your mother asks you to come over and install a metal gate and you needed the welder for the install.  Anyway, think about it, for some its good for others you might as well go with the 210 machine, given what youve told me so far I would say go with the 210....its your call chiefGood luckCHRIS
Reply:X ii, The MM-210 gets a lot of praise from most shop users. One of the main concerns with many of us who can only justify one machine is the top end versus the low end. Seems like every time you take a step up in the upper range so does the lower range and you lose the ability to work on lighter stuff unless you're a pro or full time user. The MM210 didn't do that. It kept the 30 amp low end just like the 140 to 175 class machines. A lot of folks liked that part. The higher amp output also gives you a little more room to move around in when you get to that heavier material that you were gonna do anyway with a smaller one.
Reply:One note of caution, a lot of folks mention that they are going to be primarily doing sheet metal or tubing work and occassionaly some heavier stuff. Therefore they would like to puchase a lower end machine and a cheapy at that. IF you are contemplating heavier material at all (3/8ths" range) you really should have a 210 class machine. It's like saying it's okay to buy a 1/4 ton truck to pull your 35 foot trailer cuzz you're only going to pull it once in awhile. Too small is too small. I've got a 175 and do get into thicker material, but I have to put a LOT of thought, planning and joint prep into it. With smaller machines you have to move joint design up the scale in priority quite a ways.  Real PITA sometimes. You'll be dern glad you've bought a 210 later down the road. If sheet work is so important, get a machine just for that.
Reply:The MM 210 is a very good unit, however, it wouldn t be my choice for motor cycle frames. My preference for a motor cycle frame would be a TIG unit.
Reply:Yeah but a tig unit is the cadillac of welding machines, right now hes just looking for a buick, not a caddy.  Perhaps when hes running a show on Discovery channel and hes building bikes for the likes of John deere he will choose to go with Tig.  In the meantime its just too expensive to go with Tig.  Tig has an expensive startup, and its expensive to maintain.  Mig is almost as expensive to start, and a whole lot cheaper to maintain.  Good luckCHRIS
Reply:Thanks everyone here im going to research on a little bit more of the machines you all listed above....Thanks AgaiN!
Reply:Go with the MM210. Good low to upper end  performance with .030 wire. Everyone who has one likes it.
Reply:hate to be negative but just my .02! if you don't have gloves or a shield is it a good idea to do frames or trailers? not saying inexperience, but just curious! like i said just my .02!as far as a machine goes mm175 should do just fine unless your doing logging trailers or the like.mm210 is the best machine going but might be overkill for your first machine.let us know what you choose.
