I am still looking to get a weldoing helmet and have found 2 of them. The first is a Miller XLix (stars and stripes) for 160$ with free shipping and the second is the Miller Elite(black) for 213$ with free shipping and a free helmet bag. I figure I can get a helmet bag for around 15$ so is is the Elite worth an extra 40$? Thanks
Reply:Where did you find the Miller XLix (Stars and stripes) for $160? If you don't mind me asking.

Reply:If your willing to spend that much you might as well go all out and spend a little more. optrel has got an awsome helmet (the Satellite) and I think you can find them on ebay for about $260.Rowdy
Reply:Hornell also makes an excellent helmet. The speedglass i think it is called? I looked at the optrels when i bought my hornell and my dealer told me they are very similar but he has had lots of the optrels come back in for warranty work/problems. Hornells are pricy as well, think right at 300.00 i paid for mine with 15 extra lenses(inner and outer) on ebay. But whats your eyesite worth? . From what i could tell from my helmet researching b4 i bought was that most all of the decent helmets protect your eyes from the harmful stuff welding produces even when the autoshade helmets are not dark. Not sure how true that is? One thing with these helmets is the front is curved not square and i get more glare from it then with my flat faced jackson. Love the large lense though
Reply:I looked at a speedglass model ( now owned by 3M) and even though I haven't actualy used it so I can't speak for it's perforemance I can say it was noticeably heavier and I havent experienced any problems with the optrel myself. So I supose in the long run it all comes down to personal prefrence.
