I've been on a hunt for a second mig unit (155 amp & up, 220V, 1ph, for $400 or less). My plan is to keep one set up for steel and the 2nd set up for aluminum. I've been watching Ebay and have been seeing a lot of reasonably welders made by Clarke and Chicago Electric. Does anyone have any experience with these brands? Are they any good? Are parts available?ThanksThere are no small projects
Reply:Chicago Electric is Harbor Freight.Clarke is a reputable British manufacturer as far as I know. Make sure thatit's not 240v 50Hz.
Reply:I have a small 100 amp clark stick welder that runs off 120v. Ive had the thing for 6 or 7 years and I havent killed it yet. The duty cycle is only 15-20% at 80 amps but it will shut itself down if it gets to hot. You have to try real hard to kill a transformer welder.
Reply:Thanks for the input. I got lucky and found a Lincoln Pro-Mig 175, new in the box, for $400 even. Now as soon as I find another cylinder for short $$$, I'll be ready for anything. There are no small projects |
