I want to build a welding cart/table with some metal I bought today. My question was is it safe to build a cart for my mig welder that I can also weld on? My idea was to build a 2 shelf cart, the bottom holding my mig welder and the top being the steel plate that I will weld on. I wasnt sure if i could just connect the ground clanp on to my cart and clamt the metal to the cart and weld. is that crazy? Also, if i touch the piece of metal that im currently welding will I get shocked? I found a link to a guy that built a welding cart and it looks like hes doing this. http://www.ctcn.net/~mikecorcoran/we...dingcart1.html I want to build something just like this. Except my welder is a mig not an arc.
Reply:I think it's fine. Just be sure that you have the work lead on very well.If the work lead is on correctly, yuo will not shock yourself.Owner of Welding Wiki,The free wiki based resource for weldor's around the world.http://www.weldingwiki.comWe have cookies!
Reply:That is a nice looking cart. However not sure how long those Puematic wheel will last around welding sparks. Also, consider building with only two wheels and two legs so the table can be parked when welding. Also migs usually sit angled upward slightly so you can see the controls without bend down.
Reply:Nice cart. The only problem I see is that for the 120v outlets he does not have a neutral and must be using his ground for 120v. Kevin
Reply:I was thinking about wraping the cableor hose that the gun is connected to the maching with with something burn proof. is there something I can buy for this? I didnt thing about the potential for the burnt wheels but I do like them. Maybe I can put fenders on them
