I was welding on a plate to my backrack and I have alot of welding splatter on the back window of my truck. How can I get it off?
Reply:on the galss? if so you cant it there to staychuck
Reply:yeah it's on the glass. Any suggestions?
Reply:get new glass...next time, Id cover the glass with somethjing like a fireblanket or some cardboard or something toi keep the sparks off.   Youre looking at burns in the glass.  Nothing you can do now but replace it....IF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:yup you need new glass the spatter is now welded to it chuck
Reply:even if yoiu get the metal out the lil indentions will remain...just like a plastic coffee cup I have that has more damn moon craters than the moon!  lolIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:You cant get rid of the pits, but you can take off the spatter very easily.  Get a razor blade and scrape the window just like you would if there were paint over spray on it.  The spatter will come right off.
Reply:You can get the spatter off like Comp says and then maybe try some kind of chip repair kit from an auto parts store on the holes that really bug you. Cardboard or a blanket will work good. Dont need to be fire proof as long as you dont trap a pile of dingleberries somewhere.
Reply:This is a lesson to cover all windows with cardboard whenever grinding or welding nearby!!!!  If you are in a workplace doing welding on new equipment a mistake like this can be an invite to the road.
Reply:A quick note, also cover glass up while grinding close to it.
Reply:Yeah, I remember when I first started welding,  I had a lil lincoln acdc.  well I dint hae a real long reach..and my sister wouldnt move her danged car.  So I welded near it.   Yeah, another time I was grinding.  Again she wouldnt move her car...well this time it had been backed in.  So I thought, im just grinding.  Well I learend the lesson before it ever made a big deal.  Turns out the car was totalled like a year or two later.  MY brother had taken possesion of the car and was in a really bad wreck.  Wasnt entirely his fault...more like failure to use common sense to stayoff the road under extremely adverse conditioons....oh wait this seems similar to my accident at work with an exploding cutoff wheel!y'all take care, and remember to be extra safe in the shop.  Also, if you dont know how to treat for shock...LEARN!!!  it might save someone's life!IF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:In alot of apartment building projects in Australia, the glaziers put the sliding glass doors onto the balconies before the metal guys do the railings. Alot of trades have little respect for eachother. So often the guys doing the railings will without thinking shower the doors with sparks. Apartment owners never notice till they get a bit of rain and all those little bits of embedded metal start rusting.Scott
Reply:Couple of years ago I was working pretty late finishing a balcony, welding out the decking. There were some double pane doors pretty close but I had put some cardboard up against them. Seem like it wasn't enough because a good hot one jumped the cardboard(3')and stuck to the glass. It was about 9pm and blowin' sleet so when it stuck, it blew the glass in about a zillion pieces. Sounded like a pistol shot right next to my head!
