Reply:I read somewhere in the recent past that there now exists fluxcore stainless wire...at like 5 times the price of regular stainless (like regular stainless hardwire is cheap).  Never heard tell of the same in aluminum, though.  I bet folks are trying somewhere.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:thanks folk
Reply:i have never seen or heard of alum flux core wire  i know there is alum stick for smaw and it sucks or at least i think it dose anyways that is one type of welding i will never do again ChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:Does anyone know of a place to get stainless flux-core (in .030 or smaller diam).  I've founds some in .045, but nothing in the size I would be able to use on my little lincoln wirefeeder.  Thanks in advance. Reply:I regularly use flux core SS, in .035, & .045.  Nice stuff to work with!   J W Harris is a good brandhttp://www.jwharris.com/welref/techg...el/flux_cored/ They only go as small as .035 though. Anything less than that seems perty small to wrap around the flux.Last edited by BBchevy396; 01-02-2006 at 09:21 PM.We need to protect Freedom of Speech, otherwise, how would we know who the A-holes (like me) are.
Reply:seems like their site shows their flux-core as requiring gas shielding (I am pretty new to welding, so am I just being silly by thinking that it meant I could use a wirefeed gasless welder to weld stainless?) Reply:winter,  not exactly clear on your last post, but ill try to hack this,  there are two...yes I said two kinds of flux core.  The older one also known as dual sheild uses both the flux in the wire, plus a secondary shielding from  gas.  Basically same setup as for mig welding, just has slag on top.  Burns a lot hotter and deeper penetraion thn solid wire.  The otehr flux is what y'all know as Self sheided.  No gas needed for this.  Its growing in popularity.  The gas shielded is affecteed by wind just like the mig.  The seldshielded is more like stick,  much less affected by wind.   Hope Ive answered your question.IF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:Tx,Almost, I understand the difference between gas and gasless flux core now which is definetely good.  Now I need to know if there is a .035 or smaller stainless steel gasless fluxcore wire   I would like to know if this is a possibility so that I can weld stainless using my little wirefeed HD lincoln to weld stainless instead of just mild steel.  Well, hopefully someone will say "yes, there is a .035 gasless fluxcore wire for stainless and you can buy it here..." but, I think I will remain pessimistic so that I can be pleasantly surprised if this is the case. Thanks again.
Reply:none i know of...i only know of mild steelIF it Catches...Let it Burn
