I got this old NAPA welder from my dad. It's been sitting in his basement for years. I finally got it out and wired up so I could play around. Maybe teach myself how to weld a little. My question is in reference to the plug ins. Obviously power is selected based on which socket your plugged into.  However, there's nothing on the face of the welder to tell me which set of sockets the ground clamp or electrode holder plug into. Or does it matter? My picture is kind of small - the top row of sockets are numbered up to 180. Below those, the 3 sockets on the left are labeled "low", "medium", and "high".I can't seem to find any info on the internet. As you can see, the NAPA logo on the welder is the same as the auto parts store.  I dropped by one of the NAPA auto parts stores, but they couldn't help me. Any information would be appreciated.
Reply:You must however plug one lead into the low, medium or high and the other lead into any of the numbered post.  It does not matter which lead goes where since this is an AC machine.  I would prefer to plug the ground into the low, medium or high post.  Is there a set of three numbers under the each post?  If so then they correspond to low, medium and high, respectively.  Thus if you plug the ground to the "low" post and the electrode into the any post with current readings then the current will correspond to the lowest number.  like wise medium will corespond to the middle number.  Looks like the very first post has no numbers, can't tell because of the cable?Last edited by tapwelder; 01-09-2006 at 09:26 PM.
