Hey..I dont know if im just weird like this or somthing but does anyone else here like to weld when your stressed or pissed off?Personally i love it.. Just got my own little thing to concentrate on, get to think things out.. the sounds, smells.. i dont know.. been havin some problems at school but Ive got welding at the end of the day and it always seems to cool me down.. just take like 2 pieces of scrap and just weld beads... i personally think its when i do some of my nicest beads.. i almost zone out while welding, then when i come to i stop and look.. and wow... I know its probably not the smartest/safest thing to be doing but it sure does beat the crap outta beating the crap outta someone (lol)... Well, just wonderin if im special or anyone do this?
Reply:Sounds cool to me. I'm fairly novice to the whole welding thing, but I feel very similar about getting greasy working on my vehicles. It's just relaxing to get in there and tinker. And for me, maybe it's a guy thing - - but I just need to be able to "fix" things. Not too much thinking about why or how (not that that isn't important), but just fix it - - make it better. That does it for me.So, don't think you're weird, just keep doing what you do. By the sounds of it, you're quite a bit younger that me, but it's great to hear you've found a creative or productive outlet for when your not feeling great. You certainly could do alot worse.I'd say "keep welding".Weekend MigBackyard MechanicWelder: DECASTAR 150E, Wire Feed w/ Gas Potential (not currently using gas)
Reply:I completely understand. It's really satisfying to build something that wasn't there before. It's even better when you work out a clever way to get it done along the way. Whether it's working on my car or welding, I can't think of a better place to be at night than my shop.
Reply:How about stress relieving your weld?

Reply:I like practice welding, then beating it with a BFH for destructive testing. The idea is to create something just strong enough to get out all thefrustration, just before it finally gives in. Brian Lee Sparkeee27
Reply:It sounds kind of wierd, true. But it makes sense. Welding is alot like meditation in a sensory deprivation way. All you see is the arc and puddle. Mostly all you hear is the sizzle, and all you feel is the gun. Funny seeing this, somebody told me earlier today hecouldn't understand why anyone would want to weld, he said it was too hot and smoky. I told him I liked it cuz when I drop my helmet and strike an arc I'm just in my own little world. He gave me a wierd look. lol

Reply:I think it's the dangerous nature of the activity that forces full concentration that in turn forces you to leave your troubles on the back burner at least for a while which in turn relieves some tension. It works for me when I'm surfing big waves too but if money problems are the trouble I'm escaping getting paid for whatever it is I'm welding makes that the better escape by a long shot.
