I am preparing to set up for cutting and some gas welding soon mostly related to work I do on old vehicles. I came accross some equipment that my wife's father had he was a welder and not sure what is best for my needs.I have a large about 2" airco model 1190 curring torch which looks too large for my needs.I also have medium size airco (model 4790) on torch set up that I think is good for automitive work.Next I have a wm smith #2 torch which has a smith cutting torch looks like both have 181 on them maybe model number. This set has a smaller hose connection maybe 1/4" the other two the airco's have a larger hose connection maybe 3/8" Thanks Attached ImagesFor Information about Willys Utility Vehicles http://www.oldwillys.com/
Reply:You should go to your nearest welding supply shop, with all three of these, and see if you can get tips or parts for any of them. Most Airco stuff is orphaned- which means no parts or service is available. Sometimes yes, mostly no. Smith is still around, but some older models are no longer supported. Parts wear out on torches- O rings, valves, and tips. If you cant get new parts for any of these, I would suggest getting a new set- Victor is the way to go, in my book. A couple of hundred bucks or so for a new set is worth it, just for the peace of mind that you wont have any mysterious flames squirting out at the wrong time.
Reply:Have many tips so that is not a problem, but good to know if something does not work correctlly I should replace it.For Information about Willys Utility Vehicles http://www.oldwillys.com/
Reply:I might have an airco tip that may work with one of the torches. Let me check. I think it's either a 0 or a 1 tip.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'. |
