O?A Cylinder how to tell rental/Lease

In reading posts about purchasing used tanks I see a number comments about leased vs owned cylinders .  How do you tell if a  O/A cylinder is leased ?For Information about Willys Utility Vehicles http://www.oldwillys.com/
Reply:I was told that for leased tanks the company name of leased tanks are engraved (permantly affixed somehow) to the top of the cylinder...but, I am not sure that is 100% true now, because I have seen counter-examples.  You raise a good question.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:When I purchased my O/A tanks from Airgas they gave mill a detailed bill of sale.  They also told me to make sure I hold on to it unless anyone ever questions whether I owned the tanks.
Reply:All the leased tanks I've ever seen have a ring on the neck stamped with the name of the welding supply company.  If there's a blank ring, then regardless of whether it's leased or not, you can likely find a welding supply place that will fill it or swap it.-Heath
Reply:I picked up some used o/a equipment and the ox tank I think its a 80 (about 38" to the top of the valve) had a  name cast in the top ring.   At 1st I thought it was  was a manufactures name then after reading on the forum I began to wonder if it was leased tank.Tank is about 1/2 full so I guess I will find when I take it in for a refill.
