Mornin' People. Just thought I would ask a question. I purchased a MM210 about 6 months ago. Nice machine. Figured I might need to learn how to use it better than I was so I signed up for a weding class at the local community college. In class I use a Lincoln 125 Plus with gas. Use it for plug, filet, stitch and various other types of welds. Nice welder. Nice even welds. Then I went home to try the same types of welds with my MM210. Now the problem. I cannot get the same smooth, consistant welds with the MM210. It seems to "pulse" more than the Lincoln. Kind of like I am pulling the trigger and letting up, like stitch welding except that is not what I am trying to do. I cannot figure out how to just get an even, constant weld out of the MM210. Using the same techniques, metal and gas. Any ideas? Thanks for your thoughts.
Reply:I'd say start by checking the suggested feed rate for the wire diameter you are using at home (there should be a chart on the inside panel...just start with the suggested and vary a bit around it to see if things improve). Start with a speed (maybe 50%) and the lowest reccomended voltage and increase voltage until things smooth out...or, you burn through. Sounds a bit like you are trying to get the same settings, but you really don't have it the same yet. There are a few things to check, but I'd start there...adjustments....also as a second (less likely) path, does the wire feed smoothly (and at a constant speed) when you arent striking an arc (while jogging or just squeezing the trigger)? You just want to eliminate any mechanical feed problems. As a follow up to that question, what's the power situation? Is the power at the outlet adequate? Does the welder have a dedicated circuit with a short route to the breaker panel and a properly sized breaker? This is usually not an issue, but power problems can manifest themselves in strange ways.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I'll go with smithboy every inch of the way. The 210 should give you excellent results. It's your machine so don't be afraid to experiment a little. That surging sounds vaugely like a wire feed/tension problem.
Reply:Smithboy, Sandy, thanks for your help. The welder is on its own circuit. I will check the feed rate this evening. It just doesn't seem to make any difference on the settings or the wire I am using, .035 or .025. |
