I have the original miller gun and would like to use some tapered tips .The guy at the welding supply said miller does not make 3/8" tapered tips,Profax, and Tweco do.I am looking to use the tapered tips for welding in tight spaces like on a chassis or roll cage. What set up do you use?
Reply:I've got a 400A roughneck gun with both a regular nozzle and a tapered nozzle and of course, the tips to go with each. It's hard to track down the tips from local welding suppliers, so they have to be ordered. I get mine from weldingsupply.com.I see a lot of new Roughneck guns on ebay for just over $100. They're very nice guns made by Bernard. They use fastips, which are a bit of a pain to get, but other than that, they're great. If you download the manual for one from Miller, there is a chart in the back of it with the various tips and nozzles available including the tapered ones.Tapered nozzles are cool for tight spots, corners, and fillets, but other than that, the gas coverage isn't so good.-Heath
Reply:I check the internet and either the sales guy didn't know or just said that to sell a new gun .Miller does make a 3/8 tapered tip for my gun.Only thing now is the 175 for a new profax gun wasn't so bad .I know its probably on the cheap side compared to a Miller gun and Tweco(as far as price),but as for quality it looks 5 times better than my miller gun.I checked into the roughneck gun and it looks to be very comfortable, and just looks good.I did not find anything smaller than 1/2" nozzle that can be used on this gun(is this right?),and also about the parts being hard to find.I would like to be able to get parts same day instaed of ordering them.I am not planning on using a 3/8 tapered nozzle 100% of the time, just when I have to.Last edited by Casarez; 03-16-2006 at 06:07 PM.
Reply:There's a lot of new Roughneck guns on ebay. If you snipe one, you can probably get it for $100-120. Most welding suppliers have Fastips in a couple sizes. They generally stock them for spoolguns. As for the tapered nozzle and tips, I doubt that any welding supplier commonly stocks them. If you look in the Roughneck manual:http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o199706d_mil.pdfThere is a chart near the back which shows all the consumables including the tapered nozzles and tips.Your salesperson wasn't wrong. There are no tapered tips available for the M-25 and as for quality, I've never been impressed with the M-series guns. I suppose that's why Miller is starting to use Bernard guns.-Heath
Reply:Check this link out it has a consumables list for the M-25 gun.I also did see that consumable list and the smallest they list for the roughneck is 1/2" taper,I am looking for 3/8".http://search.freefind.com/find.html...0&query=176243Last edited by Casarez; 03-16-2006 at 10:07 PM. |
