I would like to know more about EKANAIL. I know its a form of stainlesss. Forgive my spelling. What is it mainly used for? What are the benfits. Any information on this topic would be great.
Reply:Inconelhere is a briefing from wikipedia...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InconelSo its a special alloy, and its good for corrision resistance and high temp.IF it Catches...Let it Burn

Reply:We use incolnel for fixtures used for hanging parts at Maytag co. porcelene application process.Tig is the easiest welding process, but we make alot of parts so we mig weld it. Use a gas mix of argon, helium, oxyegen.
Reply:Inconel 600 and 625 are used as a 'burst discs" in many modern automobile air bag inflators.  The inflator is a steel bottle filled to about 4000 psi argon, helium, oxygen mix.  When activated by a sensor, a small explosive initiator blows through the "inlet disc", ignites a small bit of solid propellant, raises the pressure, blows through the "outlet disc", and inflates the air bag.  Inconel disc may be anywhere from .005 to .015 inch thick, and is placed over a sized orifice.  The thickness of the disc and the orifice size are balanced so the disc fails at the desired pressure.  Inconel is a good material for the discs because they can be made to very consistent burst ratings, they are corrosion resistant, and can be resistance and fusion welded to low carbon steel components.Inconel 625 contains Niobium, symbol Nb (same as Columbium), as an alloying addition to help limit the increase in grain size during prolonged high temperature applications.  The presence of Nb in 625 can lead to welding problems in the form of liquation cracking (hot cracking).  Cracks may occur outside of the weld melt zone, in the heat affected zone (HAZ) of the base metal.  Nb is associated with a grain boundary compound which melts at a lower temperature than than the bulk alloy, so the heat and stress from welding can cause tears along these liquefied paths between grains.
Reply:Inconel is not a stainless steel, inconel is a nickel based alloy.  Inconel 400, 600, and 700 are the most common alloys you will see.  The inconel 400 series is also refered to as Monel.  There are many proprietary alloys such as Hastelloy and Ekanil as you mentioned.
Reply:76GMC1500,Hastelloy sure, but Ekanil?  Never heard of any alloy by this name. Are you possibly thinking of Elkonite, a Tungsten/Tungsten Carbide and Copper powder metallurgy product made by CMW Inc.?http://www.cmwinc.comBy the way, there are some really interesting Elkonite products.  I've used Elkonite TC-20, which is 70% tungsten carbide/30% copper, for resistance upset welding electrodes which pass 8000 amps through 5/8" diameter, under 2000 lb load.
