I'm trying to weld a A36 1/2" thick bar to a c1018 1/2" thick bar. With a Miller Matic 150. The problem I have been running into is the weld is crystallizing and breaking on the C1018. I need this to be strong since its for a snowplow cutting edge. I know this isn't a big welder but I just have to make due. If anyone one has any suggestions on wire types or methods that would help this hold together I would appreciate [email protected]
Reply:1018 is cracking? you shure that's what it is what kinda of gas you useing and wireChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:Your machine can't put enough heat into it to do much more than melt the wire let alone really heat up the weldment. You'll need some serious pre-heat. Even then I wouldn't expect miracles. I've done 1 inch to 1 inch with a MM175. Pulled the guts out of it. Slow going, lot of gouging out, real PITA. |
