Am making a drawing for welders involving 1" to 1-7/8" thick plate 100ksi min yield constructional grade heat treated alloy steel and some of this involves welding it to 1-1/2"thick tube of 4130 heat treated alloy of same ksi. What specifications would i call out on dwg and what special notes would you recommend?
Reply:You should list the desired preheat and interpass temps. Also detail the weld joint. You can make life much easier if you use backing strips if you desire beveled joints with fillets on top. I have no idea what your preheat and interpass should be. Lincoln has a preheat calculator and the formula for calculating preheat is striaghtforward once you have the reference. You will need the exact composition of your plate or its carbon equivalent value.
