I have been trying to get a good bead with my millermatic 185 with spool gun on 1/8" thickness angle with 3/4" round stock laying on top on it. Using .30 4035 wire with argon gas. Can't get good penetration where the two parts meet or good puddle. Tried to preheat round stock but still no luck. Settings 3/45(wire feed).
Reply:Make sure you clean it as well. Welding alum. with the MIG is a bit of a struggle.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Crank it up!030 is a smaller wire but if you crank up the heat and wire speed, and keep your heat directed on the round stock you should be alright. I'm not familiar with your welders heat settings, but you should be near the top end of its capabilities with what you are doing. If your heat is a 1-7 dial, then start around 5 and work up from there.Hope this helpsBill
Reply:alum mig needs to be done in spray transfer not short circuitChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:You need to turn up your wire speed, but the other guy is right about spray transfer. In order to get it to spray your need to increase your voltag untill there is no more spatter. |
