Hey all, just found this site after searching for any type of welding forum. anyways, moving out of the city to the county with 12 acres. so finally I can get my daughter/son out of the city. would like to know of some good suggestions on the best welding i could get that can work on many different projects. I have welded before many times, so i know how to, just dont know what to buy. I plan on building my son a go-kart(not the small ones, but more like a small monster truck). then we have some gates that will need to be fixed. plus now i will have the room and place to restore my 65 mustang.. I know this is very general, but just some good ideas . Thanks for you time.
Reply:welcome to weldingwebwhat kind of welding process have you used in the past? mig? stick? what kind of budget are you working around?the go-cart and the stang are begging you to get a mig welder, however if the gates (or any other future outdoor projects) cant be brought indoors to be welded youll be better off with a stick machine for outdoor work. the workaround to this is either flux-core wire through a wire-feed welder (mig without the gas, with different wire) or a multiprocess machine ($$$).will/can you have 220v available for welding? 220v costs a little bit more, however the benefits FAR outway the initial price difference.
Reply:yeah as the above ^^^^^^^ post statesmore info is neededthen we will make our most educated guess as to what you needwe hope...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:sorry it took so long to get back with you all....i'm almost 100% sure it's a mig welder. Dont use any sticks, just wire that is rolled up into the welder. it's run on regular 115 . Used it to fix steel panels on a horse trailer, bikes, horse carriage, etc(or at least my father in law did)Price is not a real problem can probably fork out around 500+ or so for this, only problem is the shop does not have 230 yet, and since it's about 300 feet from the house running the 30am 230 out there is not in the real near future(but will be within a yr at most)would something like this work/good enought. http://cgi.ebay.com/HOBART-HANDLER-1...QQcmdZViewItemLast edited by crate; 07-05-2006 at 01:39 PM.
Reply:I have this same machine it is great for small projects and tacking some larger projects. I got mine from TSC For about $420.00 w/o the cart & made my own cart. I recommend getting gas mix. Good Luck.CIRCLE STAR "W" WELDING |
