Dear Fellow members, I welcome your shared expertise and advise on the below: For structural welding in accordance to AWS D1.1, with majority TKY joints; 1. If all weld connections are full-pen, 100% UT is required, is MPI essential as per code? 2. If we have a 200mm thick EH36 plate butt welded to a 90mm thick EH69 plate, is PWHT required as per AWS? 3. Is EH69 (Yield 690 MPa) an AWS material grouping? How shall we identify this material in order to qualify a WPS for welding EH69 to API 5L-X52 ?.

Reply:I've been welding 11 years, structural and have had alot of inspections, new concstruction, retrofit, hospital, etc. and the only time I was ut'd was splicing 24 x 136 hbeam to 80 plus ft. down in san diego at the unversity. the beams were to support a major street for a new lrt track to go under it it fell under the bridge code d1.5 and required full time inspection and ut. D1.1 i believe does not require ut, but requires full time visiual inspection on full pen, partial pen and any fillet welds above 5/16". Other than that we dont call inspector untill the whole job has been welded out. The crontractor can pay for ut if they feel they should on any welds. i don't worry it about because my work will pass, inspector or not.
Reply:too many abbrivations for me......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
