What's a good torch & gauge set to purchase for the money?? Also what about the tank set? purchase or lease ? I'm sure I won't use a tank a yr.
Reply:Victory is the best i believe for the money as far as what type of work your going to be doing weather or not its light duty or trying to do a busines with it Journeymen is there top of the line one. and works great then they have others depending on the job your going to be doing.
Reply:The Victor Super Range II will do most anything you're likely to ever see, and can usually be found in a good package with regulators and hoses for about $200. Check eBay; there are several dealers there that sell new welding equipment.FWIW, I drive a Victor Journeyman, but it's a much bigger torch than most weldors will ever need.
Reply:I've always used Smith. If your not doing heavy cutting I would go with the smaller one, ace hardware carries rosebuds, brazing tip, and all for the smaller torches. I'm not sure what brand they are though, but if your not gonna use but a tank a year it should serve you well.DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:Journeyman is a huge torch handle, I've only used the smaller 100 series handles never really needed anything bigger. I cut up about 4-6 scrap cars/trucks a year. I find its easier to just buy the tanks and swap them when they are empty, no rental, no lease fees and you allways end up with a recent hydro test. If you buy small bottles, most places will give some credit towards upgrading to a larger size later. I know Oxarc here does.Last edited by Aric; 08-19-2006 at 09:49 PM.
Reply:I agree with Mac702. The Victor Superrange II is probably all the torch most of us will ever need. Parts for it are available EVERYWHERE (at least in my part of the country). I got mine from Indiana Oxygen Co. on an Ebay "buy it now" auction. They shipped it the same day they received payment from PayPal, and it was at my door the next day. I couldn't ask for any better service.
