MIG Welding Aluminum Question

New to welding Al so please forgive me if this is stupid.  Using my new Miller DVI with a spool gun and 100% Argon gas I am welding thin aluminum .063 thick.  Probably too thin for my welder but it is what I had around for testing.When I lay the bead the puddle is almost impossible to see because it is bright white like the material.  Once I figured that out I had a really odd effect.  The beads are very flat on the top of the part but very pronounced on the bottom.  Looks like the bead actually sunk into the part.  I did not have any blow through and when I picked up speed it did get a lot better.
Reply:Are you pushing or pulling the bead?
Reply:Straight down on top to keep the shielding on the bead because it was a flat part with easy access.  Pushing sounds like it may have a positive impact what do you think?
Reply:Gary has hit on part of it.  You should be pushing the gun.  Also, if you are getting sagging, you may be running a bit hot for the thickness.  The increased speed might be helping with the buildup of heat, but you could just reduce the heat a bit also.  Just a couple of quick thoughts.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I am at the lowest voltage setting and probably at the min material thickness.  Since I did not blow through I was hoping some changes in technique may help.  I'll try pushing tonight and increase my gun speed - I think my brain was waiting for a bead to build up before moving ahead concentrating a lot of heat and wire in one place.  Al is definitely different.
Reply:you could also use a heat sink to draw some of the excess heat out as you weld.  I never thought I'd suggest that for aluminum, though.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I weld 063 sometimes when its necessary and I really need to fine tune my machine. At home I have a DVI and have not tried anything that thin, at work my machine is a Miller alt 304 and I take it down to 14-15 volts to do that thin stuff. Happy welding!!Bill
Reply:PFC Mark, can you tell me what your machine is set at? My MM210 suggests 3/55 as the lowest setting. What wire diam. are you using? I'm loaded with 030. I have not tried anything less. But I would love to experiment with lower settings and thinner wire.  I'm laying beads on an aluminum ladder rung and can blow through real fast if I don't keep up the speed. Argon is set at 25. I have made some nice looking beads. What happens if I drop voltage but keep wire speed the same? Thanks snoboy
Reply:if too  white  or hard to see try a darker lens   but with alumin start lower amps then tune up   and yep a sink would help too   if  thin   stock you may need to adjust  "your"  speed  not the machine
