ok, so yesterday i picked up a new welder i got home set it all up and started to have ago, i was welding think steel to thick steal so i tacked it together, then i sarted to weld it down the seam - after i was done it was super messy i mean there was slag everywhere and blobs of metal surounding it i picked up the brush and pik and chipped away it looked ok but it still looked bad, im using a no cash mig, i was on max setting and 6 wire feed.so why is it happening?
Reply:Firt, why not try two pieces of similar thickness, much easier for a first timer. Are you using gas or flux core? Is the metal clean, no rust or coatings?
Reply:flux core, the metal is clean and it is the same thickness
Reply:i was jost told on the phone by a mate he used to be a fabricator when he lived in the north of uk, anyway were building a bmx ramp and where going to make the frame work with the welding so he said he will sort it out if theres a problemthanks thoigh-Ryan

Reply:If FCAW, is your polarity set at DCEN, electrode negative? What machine? Telling us a relative setting is useless if we don't know the machine. How thick is thick steel?
Reply:it goes back to practice practice speed and temp it will get there keep up the practice mig is about the fine tune
