First a thanks for Zap taking time out of his weekend to teach some rookies how to weld. This is the sign of a true professional in my opinion.I am an "enthusiastic amateur" welder. I have read lots of books and forums, but having someone with years of experience looking over my shoulder was very helpful.I learned how to properly end a weld (without a crater or pinhole)I learned the importance of cleaning/degreasing the parts with solvent, even the inside of tubes prior to welding.I learned not to worry what the little electronic amperage display on my machine says (Thermal Arc 185tsw). Get it close on the readout, and then apply the correct amount of heat with the pedal.I learned that I was not sticking the tungsten far enough out of the torch, and that my tungstens were too blunt. All and all it was a very productive trip. Thanks again to Zap, his employer, and the rest of the attendees.Andy

Reply:I saw that Zap welded some stuff up, but did everybody else weld some also? I just wonder if you all got a chance to weld and get feedback while you were there. If so, where those pics? (quote)standing up for the class...no they did not "weld stuff up" only the basics for now...some fusing of stainless... cleaning..prep..grinding tungestion..playing with alumnium to some degreeand that was the first thing we did... walk before you run...but they will be in a full dash in a jiffy......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I am a member of the class and have been using a Tig in a factory environment for many years now to keep machines running and breakdown type of welding. Mostly Stainless and Mild steel. Every time something Aluminum would break I would cringe like of SH** I cant fix that. I am not any super welder by any means and don't claim to be but Zap showed me in about 20 minutes what I have been doing wrong with Aluminum for many years and why it wasn't working for me. Zap is the real deal, he isn't talking out of his a** when he says something, I have seen his work in real life and am impressed with a lot of what I have seen. Just so you know I am not easily impressed, I have been in a shop environment's since I was a kid. I cant wait until he decides to give another class.Drivesector Hobart Handler 140Hobart Handler 180Ready Welder 2Hobart Air Force 400Airco Stinger 225Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most."OZZY"
Reply:Opps the answer to the question is we all welded something. Zap welded the critical stuff related to his job. (I don't blame him) The SS fusing and Aluminum pitchers are from the members of the class. If you want more pitchers next time of classmates I can accommodate. I am bringing the Steak if Zap Does it.Drivesector Hobart Handler 140Hobart Handler 180Ready Welder 2Hobart Air Force 400Airco Stinger 225Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most."OZZY" |
