I just bought a Hobart 140 and now I need to get a cylinder. I will mostly be doing repairs on sheetmetal and 1/8" or less steel for my race car. I do not do a lot off welding just repairs and small projects. What size cylinder would you guys recommend that I get?  I heard that a 20cf would only last about 30 min. of weld time, is that about normal? I called several places and got the following prices:140cf - $108 per 1 year rent and 1 fill.127cf - $210 filled, purchased.80cf  -  $258 filled, purchased.40cf  - $145 filled, purchased.20cf  - $90 filled, purchased.
Reply:Whoa, those are some crazy prices.I'd suggest that you get the biggest cylinder that you can reasonably handle.  For me, that ends up being the 125CF cylinder, which looks like the best value.-Heath

Reply:http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=92821On the nearest harbor freight they had it at 70 bucks. The 70 CF. That´s a nice price for it being empty. My Babies: HF Drill pressHF Pipe Bender3   4.5" Black and Decker angle grindersLincoln Electric PROMIG 175that´s it!
Reply:Get as big as you can reasonably carry.  Those prices sound REEEEEALY high to me also.  Ebay has um a bunch cheaper.  I got a 80cf a few years back for around $100.  They are a bit more now, but not as much as you are talking about.  Here is one place that is reputable and has pretty good prices.  But, always shop around on stuff like gas.  Prices seem to differ a lot for no good reason.http://cgi.ebay.com/80-CF-WELDING-CY...QQcmdZViewItemSmithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:The bigger the better, and get two if possible.I always would run out on sunday when I didn,t have spare.
Reply:I recently bought an 80 cf cylinder of 75/25 argon co2 from Texas Welder Supply (TWSCO) in Houston for 175 cylinder and gas.  Your prices look very high.
Reply:Wow and I thought we where high.  I just paid 217 for a 150 cf tank and argon, in central Iowa.  Guess they aren't out of line at all.

Reply:I purchased a 150cu/ft from Linde Gas in Atlanta about six months ago and paid $150.00 for the tank and $15.00 for the first fill.I think they normally charge me $33.00 to fill it. The prices theye gave you seem pretty high.Washman
Reply:The bad thing about you guys telling me the prices are high around here is that those quotes  are a combination from three suppliers

Reply:I ended up getting a 80cf from Airgas for $152 plus $30 for a fill
Reply:If I were you I would at least price shop Thoroughbred offering gas through such nationwide retailers such as Tractor Supply, Northern Tool, Forney Dealors, and select Fastenal locations throughout TX/OK areas. They EXCHANGE/SELL cylinders to consumers @ reasonable/competitive prices. After you pay for a lease and all the "hidden" prices that AIRGAS and "other" gas suppliers charge it makes sense to BUY the cylinders. Anyways... thats what i have done and have had NO PROBLEMS with Thoroughbred Cylinder Exchange. ~GASPONY~
