My friends and I are planning on putting roll cages on our golf carts. planning to use 1-1/2" round or square tubing for the cages, they dont have to be like super tough, and im just wondering what would be the cheapest welder to get to perform this fab. cage corners are going to be gusseted for extra strength, pretty much were building a group of X-treme Golf Carts. any help, or advice is helpful thnx.
Reply:Go to Home Depot, get the Lincoln 3200 or 135 welder. You can do it with those machines. I suggest you practice and get decent with the welder before you go building a cage. An improperly built cage is sometimes refered to as a "Trap" not a 'Cage'..........

Reply:Mines getting upgraded to a 20hp 200cc 4-stroke motor. cage, racing seats, automotive light up skull shifter knob, maybe lifted for use of 25" atv mud tires. Buddy has a 400cc twin cylinder 2stroke race motor he plans to use on his. other feats. halogen off-road lamps, reinforced chassis and bumpers for us idiots to ram stuff. and ideas welcome. how much does that lincoln welder go for? and is it arc, stick, mig or tig?
Reply:Quadwelder,The Lincoln 3200 is a mig welder, 135 amps.  It comes with everything you need to weld (except a tank of shielding gas).  It will handle up to about 3/16" thick steel, which should be pretty good for what you want to do.  If you want to go any heavier than that you should consider getting a 240 volt welder in the 175-180 amp range (or bigger).Since you're pretty new here you can be forgiven this time......but.....when you post concerning something like x-treme golf karts WE GOTTA SEE PICS!! Reply:Pick one of these Hobarts that fits your need.  I'd recommend one with gas capability for future and cheaper longterm use.http://www.toolking.com/category.aspx?categoryID=323

Reply:I would love to see those Carts...What about NOs? Reply:chassis is steel, must be cuz theyre heavy as he11. but the roll cage is gonna be needed for off roading, and the 5-6 halogens on top, and the dual glasspack cherry bomb mufflers that are gonna be sticking straight up off the rear vertical tubes. but yea, plenty of pics will be posted, maybe a video or 2 when the motors done.
