looking at a welding job, states "*Welder must pass a 6g Pipe Test or a 4G Structural Test" what is required and is there a place to find this info, thanks in advance
Reply:6g is a pipe certification; depending what you are planning to be certified in there are different requirements. The basic premise is you will be joining 2 pieces of pipe together by welding them, and the completed weld is then sent to a testing lab.      Root pass can be mig, tig, 6010/7018 stick etc, backing plate or no backing plate, uphand, downhand..., you get the point. Find out what the specific requirements are by calling the company.   4g is 2 pieces of 1" plate welded in the overhead position, same testing applies. Again I would find out what exactly they are looking for by calling the company. Hope this was helpful, and good luck.Last edited by Clanweld; 10-27-2006 at 09:46 AM.If you don't have the time to do it right, then you definitely don't have the time to do it over.
Reply:thank you for the info, thats what i was looking for, ill give them a call for more info
Reply:The 6G is a pipe set at 45 degrees slope.  This makes it a bit more of a challenge than a regular pipe test but qualifies you for all other pipe positions.
