How safe exactly is it to be welding in the vacinity of a welder/generator with one of those teeny weeny little breather holes on the top of the gas cap? Is it possible to get a "hole in one" with a little red hot bb of spatter or a grinding and go kerpow? I don't remember the manual going into any kind of a safe distance or anything. Has this ever happened to anybody? Because if it ever happed to anybody even if it's a trillion to one shot I just know it would happen to me.
Reply:Don't weld directly over your welder and you'll be fine. All joking aside with a little common sense engine driven welders are as safe. I keep some distance between my work and my welder to help keep it clean. Of all the hazards I work around my welder blowing up doesn't even cross my mind.
Reply:Shy of a kindling fire right on the tank itself, I wouldn't worry a lot. Wouldn't hurt to watch for fuel line leaks.

Reply:Gasoline does not explode. It has to be gas vapour mixed with air. As long as you are not fueling up while the engine is idling or while you are welding the chances of any great amount of gasoline vapour in the correct mixture reaching a spark are remote.
Reply:Experiment for yourself! Gasoline is very explosive. Diesel Fuel is not as bad. Motor Oil takes a while to get burning then look out the same with rubber or tires.Lincoln AC Tombstone Lincoln AC\DC Miller TIG OxyAcet Many Many Tools
Reply:An empty tank has a better (although still remote) chance of exploding. Gasoline doesn't explode, the vapors are explosive. Ever see one of those videos where someone lights a bonfire with gas? Happens the same every time: first match goes out, 2nd one makes it about halfway to the wood when the fumes ignite and rob a few eyebrows. If you are concerned that your basic safety precautions aren't enough, just keep the tank full.If you don't have the time to do it right, then you definitely don't have the time to do it over.

Reply:if it runs dry of oil in the crankcase.. then it will "blow up"....split the case and all but not explode...this is'nt the movies... ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home. |
