Reply:yeah, i nevered really looked around too much...im want to find a place in my province...but do you think that program is for C.W.B??
Reply:8500 is way too high for 20 weeks .... unless it is one of those quickie private colleges set up on a shoestring and take your money whether you pass or not. Check out what the tuition is at a normal provincial college/vocational school. A good program should take a minimum of 20 weeks and more like 30 to 40 weeks. Often you will do the exercises involved in the CWB test. Technically you do the test for a certified company that you are working for. Most schools don't issue a CWB ticket unless you come in and do the test on site for certification with a particular company. Watch out for those fly by night schools. We have several that have appeared in the last few years since the demand for welders went up. Their equipment is a joke and they have too many students for the amount of equipment. From talking to some people who went through such a program they had to share welding machines. Only someone with several years experience before coming into the course had a hope of passing.

Reply:I don't know if you have them in Canada, but I go to a county technical school down here in Upstate NY. It's mainly for High School students, but they also have reasonably priced adult classes. $299(American) for a 30 hour class. Our equipment is very good, MIG, TIG, scratch-start TIG, stick, O/A, etc. Our instructor can also set up bend tests, pull tests, and all that. Lately he's been talking about a Centro certification(presumably for welding on buses). The instructor himself has been doing a lot of testing through the American Welding Society. On top of all that, he also helps a lot with job placement.

Reply:8500 sounds very steep to me...iv looked into going to a collage for my "C" ticket i think its 10 months at school and then x amount of hours on the job and its around 3000...look around a bit...the school im talking about is on vancouver island...but just for reference
Reply:i found a school in Timmins, ON..its about $3000.00...its 2 semesters long.hear what it says about the cwb ticket"Graduates can test for their "all-position CWB welding tickets - SMAW, GMAW, FCAW" at a reduced cost."so i take it that in order to get my CWB i need to take a test of some sort??
Reply:i talked to a friend and hes going to let me stay with him, so i guess its a go..but its only pipe fitting, and i only use arc welding...i havent been the best at arc welding, mainly becasue i hate welding upside down...always scared that the weld pool with just fall on me and burn a hole in my neck..do school teach a person how to weld first or will they just start getting into other stuff like blueprint and crap?? |
