I need to rebuild some of the joints on my bulldozer blade and pusharms, anyone got any helpful information? I had a professional welder tell me I cannot just rebuild them with regular welding rods, I had another tell me that was all I can do and yet another tell me that I have to use hardsufacing rod and that once I do, I cannot do anything else to the joint. Makes me think that someone does not know what they are talking about. Question is, which one?

Reply:They can be welded up. It's done all the time. If they are the ball and socket type with the bolt on caps you can aslo shave the mating surface of the cap and tighten them up.

Reply:Thanks for everything so far guys. This is on a cat d6d pusharms where the pusharm pivots and the braces. We have already replaced the bracket behind the tilt cylindar. My father in law is a machinist and we built a new one from scratch and welded it on. We used mild stell with 4140 inserts and a 4140 pin, works great. Better than the original. We also made a 4140 bearing for the tilt cylindar. I have cut the caps before, and replaced the trunion balls on both sides since then. I've turned them around too. Weather has given us some down time so I thought I might tighten things back up some. The trunion ball/pusharm joint on the side of the roller frames are the worst.
Reply:Glad we could all help. That's why we all hang around here, to help and to ask for help and also to get better ideas and ways to do things.                            MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:Yeah, that's what I thought that was a picture of. I'd like to not have to buy those pieces from Cat if possible. It is realy outrageous what Cat charges for parts nowadays. Besides, got to make it look like I need my welder for something other than sitting under a cover in my shop.
