Our government leaders in action -- the following is a quote from a California representative that I came across in today's news:Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) talked issues on "This Week":On border security: "I believe in spreading freedom around the world. But, you know, we have to have enforceable borders and I think the message to America is, since 9/11, border security's not just an immigration issue now. It's primarily a security issue. When we built that double fence, San Diego was a no man's land. You had hundreds of thousands of people coming in illegally. We built the double fence and that meant that a smuggler had to cross the first fence, cross a high-speed Border Patrol road, then he had to sit down with his welding gear and cut a hole through the second fence. And, obviously, if the Border Patrol is on the job, which they are, he can't do that. So we have reduced smuggling of people and narcotics by more than 90 percent in that smuggler's corridor between San Diego and Tijuana. The fence works in San Diego and it's going to work on the national border."
Reply:Not sure what you're asking - how did they cut the fence?John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Well it depends, if they are trying to smuggle themselves over the boarder then I'd assume they probably wouldn't have much money and were looking for a better oprotunity elsewhere. So I'd go with the welder being a Lincoln or Miller knock-off and the guy just cranks the heat and uses it to "cut" the fence. Who knows it could even be some old fashioned welder that may have been a surplus World War 2 machine! Imagine the history...

Reply:"Welding gear" in gubmint talk means "that stuff I don't know what is, but it cut a hole in that fence which looks really really tough". Basically someone told him they cut a hole in the fence with a torch and he says "what's a torch", so they fed him enough crap to make a speech for the press.

Reply:Could be he recently saw " National Treasure ". That Lincoln plasma could easily be mistaken for a welder by most people off the street. Now that the poor congressman has been belittled here he might have to check with the Clinton campaign camp to come up with an excuse. Piece of cake for those guys. Reply:couple car batteries in series and some anti-matter electrodes "should" do the trick.
Reply:I'd be guessing a micro torch would be the welding tool of choice especially if you have to climb anouther fence and possibly run from the cops. I'd probably just climb the second fence too unless I was bringing somebody too fat to climb with me. |
