Anybody have pictures of their portable welding trailers ?  I'm setting up a trailer for part time portable work. I have an abandoned Miller Big 40 in my yard (long story) so I'm gonna use it till the guy wants it back. I got a great deal on a 5' x 7' trailer built from 4" channel with a 5200 lb axle and 8 ply truck tires on it ($200) I think the Big 40 weighs in at about 1600#, should leave room for my O/A and some tool boxes. Interested in anybody's experiences in the portable welding business as well, like what to charge etc.Not a beginner, not a pro !

Reply:As far what to charge I would call a few places in the area and tell them you may need some on site welding and you would like to know what the rates are. Give them a description of the typw of welding you'd be doing. Unless it is various stuff. Around here it's anywhrer from 50.00 - 120.00 depending on the job.... I used to get 75.00 with a 4 hr minimum and paid for travel. When I had to do some line boring it was a little more.I have a portable set up in an enclosed trailer... not as heavy as the 40 so a small single axle will do. I like the enclosed because of the snow and what not.... I don't like it when I have to go inside a building and work..... if it's a bad area of town I have to lock the trailer cause they'll steal everything. Locking the doors means CLOSING the doors..... which makes for very poor ventilation..... I need to figure a way to add a power vent of some sort.Last edited by lorenzo; 02-02-2007 at 09:54 PM._________________Chris
Reply:Lorenso,          Sounds like what you need is a mean dog that likes exhaust fumes !I live in a small town in Virginia. Except for leaving hand powered tools laying around I don't think I'd have any problems like that, but you never know anymore. My garage doesn't even have a door on it, just a tarp across the front, and I have stuff laying around the place everywhere. the only thing I ever lost here is a 5 gal. can of gas when it was over $3.00 / gal. We have  had a super mild winter, but I need a break in the temp. right now before I can do more on the trailer, cause painting stuff is next. Not too long to spring at least !Not a beginner, not a pro !
