I have used several different brands of MIG self-shielded flux cored wires (no gas required), (e.g., harbor freight, Lincoln, Hobart, etc., etc.) and they really vary in weld performance in my opinion. Can anyone suggest what they believe to be the best general purpose MIG self-shielded flux cored wire and why? Thanks for your input!Sincerely,Robert
Reply:first of all, there are many different AWS classifications of self-shielding flux-core wires. That means that, by design, they are not all going to weld the same even within one brand. Second, you can take several different batches of the same brand and type of wire and notice very minor differences in the way that they weld. Also, AWS has tolerances that the chemistries of the wire should fall in, but between different brands and also different batches the wire can fall at opposite ends of the tolerances and still be considered within spec. |
