Being a newbie mig welder I bought a roll of this er49 wire on sale. didn't really check to see what came with the welder till I got home, and it was er70s. Did I just waste 20 bucks? Hard to find technical data on this wire or what all the wire codes mean. I searched here but must not have used the right wordsThe er70 I had was .023 and the er49 is .030. I went to .030 because I weld 1/8- 1/4" steel and was told to go bigger diameter. I find the er49 welds just as good if not better and penatration seems better. Could be the wire size difference, my imagination, my day, who knows... Noticed more spatter I thinkUsing a MM175 AR/CO2Thanks
Reply:The 70 in ER60S-6 is the tensil stregth. You could have 49,000 PSI tensil strenth. Could be for body work. DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:For bumpers its probably fine. Mild steel is only 30,000 psi so who knows. It might have better ductility and shear strength than er70. Need to find some specs on it to be sure. R45 is an accepted gas rod, but is typically not used in load bearing applications... dunno.
